Art and Bracelet
Today i was assigned to the same group as last time. Group e. i headed to the art room and saw my mentor. i asked if there's anything i could do while he kids are working but he said i could just walk around t see if any of the kids needed help. as i was walking, one of the kids asked me if i could help her make bracelets. i sat down next to her and held one end of the string while Desiree insert beads on the other end. She talked he favorite show SpongeBob Squarepants and told me why her favorite character was Plankton. after she had finished making the bracelet she took my hand and placed it on my wrist i smiled and at her and thanked her. she stuck her tongue out and ran away. By the end of the day, while walking to the waiting room, Desiree walked next to me while reciting the periodic table. although she is only 10, She's one of the smartest people i know. i learned a lot of things about her and also cool facts about random things. when most of the kids had gone my mentor told me that i could go. i stopped by the office and signed out before leaving.
snacks
Afterschool i went straight to Pomeroy. I came in the office and signed in. I was put in group e and i would be working with kids between the ages 8-13. I was excited. It was my first time working with them. i got to talk to them when were in the waiting room, but i never really talked to them in a class room. they've just gotten out of the art room so my mentor told me to lead the line to room e. i went in front of the line and started walking next to a girl. When we got in the room, Pulled out a chair. i asked my mentor of there is anything i could do. It was snack time so my mentor asked me to go to the kitchen and prepare snacks for the kids. after reviewing the allergy list, i counted the students who would be getting snacks and the kids who have their own snacks. i ended up making 9 Ritz sandwiches and preparing 12 juices for the kids. when i returned everyone lined up for their snacks. when everyone was done my mentor told the kids to clean u and head to the waiting room where a move was playing. i sat on the back made sure everyone was okay. when most of the kids had left, my mentor told me i could go. before leaving, i stopped by the office and singed out.

Mondays
As my mentor informed me Mondays were weird. I was late to volunteering today. I was so scared i would get yelled at. Turns out my mentor was okay with it. After signing in, I had to look for my group because I was late, I checked the room but since its already been 30 minutes they must have left the room already. I was right. I checked the art room to see if they were there. Everyone was busy. I checked they gym and the pool. Finally i saw one of the staff and he told me that my group was in the small play ground. When i got there, i apologized to my mentor and said it would never happen again. My mentor told me not to worry about it and said i could just walk around to make sure the kids are okay. I walked around, talked to the kids and made sure everyone is okay, the other volunteer is occupied with a student and i kept an eye on the kids. After play time was over, we went back in the room for lunch. Every one ate and my mentor had asked me to get drinks in the fridge. i got the drinks and distribute them to everyone. i asked if they wanted water, orange juice, or apple juice. i stayed with Brandon to make sure he eats his food. after everyone ate, my mentor told me to tell the kids to clean up but make sure they do it themselves so they would learn. The kids cleaned up and we walked to the waiting room. other kids where there too so i decided to sit back and let the kids socialize to themselves. when most of the kids had left my mentor told me i could go. I stopped by the office to sign out and left.
Saturday activity
25 October 2015
I dressed up as a pirate! I didn't think I was able to do it since I didn't Have any costume but I cut up an old white t shirt and borrowed a bandana from a friend. When I got to the facility, most of the staff where dressed up. I went to the office and signed in. I looked for the schedule to see which group I would be working with today but I didn't see a schedule for today. I saw one of the staff and asked if he knows where the schedule is. He told me that during events, the kids usually just go to the play ground and that my mentor should be there. When I got to the playground, I saw my mentor dressed as a pirate. They planned a play for the kids but they needed 2 people to play the bad guys. my mentor recalled that in my sign up sheet I said I was interested in theater and art. I was asked to play one of the bad guys. I planned on saying no but I felt bad because the kids were waiting for the play so I agreed. my mentor gave me props and told me to wait at the corner of the building and pop out when one of the staff gives me a signal. waiting on that corner felt like forever. I was nervous and I dint really know what to do. I only knew little about the play. when I heard the kids approaching, I looked at the other pirates and we all jumped out at the same time. Everything else went smoothly after that. After the play my mentor asked me if I could do the same thing for the next play and i agreed. By the end of the day, I waited with the kids for their ride. When most of them had gone, my mentor told me i could go. i went to the office to sign up and left.

My First Day!
24 October 2015
Today was my first day volunteering. I was so scared! I made sure I walked in the ramp instead of walking on the drive way. I made sure I was at least 10 min early just incase I get lost, which I did. I couldn't find where the office was because everything looked different in the virtual tour. They had Halloween decorations everywhere for the kids. When I finally found the office, I singed in and they assigned me to group b which later I found out was a group of students at ages 13-16. the group went to the computer lab and everyone was working on something. one student is listening to music and another is playing online games. I asked one of the staff if I could do anything for them. They said I could walk around the room to see if anyone needs help. One of the volunteer who was working with group b told me that its their free time that's why the volunteers usually just interact with the students and just talk to them. after computer time, my mentor told me the benefit of computer time and asked me if I could walk with them to the pick up room. when I got to the pick up room where the students wait for their ride. I meet a student named Patrick and he was very polite. He drew me a picture of my shoes and signed it then gave it to me. I said thank you, shook his hand and placed the drawing in my pocket. when most of the students had gone home, my mentor told me I could go. Before leaving, I made sure I signed out.

Orientation
15 October 2014
Today I went to Pomeroy Recreation and Rehabilitation Center for an orientation. I also met my mentor, for the first time. She made a presentation of the do's and dont's in the facility and provided us information about the center and provided cool facts about the place, staff and the people who attend there. I made sure I paid extra attention to the rules and regulation. She gave us a virtual tour of the place since none of the staff or students are in the facility anymore. She also took time to learn a few things about the new volunteers. She asked question such as: "how did you find this place," "what made you interested in volunteering." I learned that there was one volunteer who was 13 years old who volunteers with her dad because she wanted to give back to the community and that inspired everyone in the room. By the end of the presentation, my mentor passed out a schedule chart and people signed up to the days they want to volunteer. By the time the chart reached me, there were only a few slots available. My mentor informed me that she would email me if there are anymore available spot for the next month and I could schedule there. After signing a few things and scheduling m first day, I said goodbye to my mentor and left.
